OUTDOOR DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY IN ALTA VALTELLINA

The area between Stelvio, Gavia, and Engadine is one of the last true Alpine wildernesses. Outdoor activities here are serious business, with high potential, high altitude, and great complexity. The challenge is to support Alta Valtellina’s new Multiservizi company in taking charge of the destination and creating a product development and management strategy.  

why

In 2023, Bormio Marketing became Alta Valle Multiservizi (SMAV), shifting from a marketing agency to a territorial developer with a project management role for tourism products. SMAV now needs an outdoor product development plan as the main growth area for the destination.  

What

We assisted SMAV in analyzing, mapping, and evaluating the outdoor offering, structured around three key pillars:  

  • Iconic mountain roads like Stelvio and Gavia
  • Ski resorts, primarily winter-focused.  
  • Hiking and forest trails spanning from valleys to peaks and glaciers.  

This environmental variety offers enormous outdoor potential, from controlled activities to more untamed experiences. The goal is to develop a product concept to guide planning, identify priority projects, and establish a management model.  

How

  • Flow analysis.  
  • Outdoor lab and field inspections.  
  • Creation of technical working groups (e.g., ski touring, enduro biking).
